Design a Better Shower Are you thinking of remodeling your bathroom? Have you given much thought to the shower design? Well, if not, then here’s the time to start doing so! With a little foresight you can have a well-designed shower that is beneficial to your life style and tastes. Size Matters There is nothing worse than a cramped and tiny shower, especially if you are claustrophobic! So how can you decide what the right size is for you? Well, a good rule of thumb if you have the space is to go with a shower that is a minimum of 60” by 36”. If spacing is an issue, stand with your arms outstretched and turn in a circle. The circle is the bottom line for minimum sizing you should go with. Easily Accessible Water Controls Nothing wakes you up quicker than a jolt of cold water! And if the shower controls are placed in such a way that you must enter the shower in order to turn the water on, then that is what you are going to get. So make sure that the shower controls are placed in a location that can be easily accessed from outside the shower and save yourself that rude morning wake up call. Install a Bench Installing a bench inside your shower will allow you to soak up the invigorating pellets of warm water that trickle from the shower head. And if a steam shower is in your future plans, a bench will be a heavenly addition. A bench will also enhance the everyday, mundane tasks (such as shaving...

Small Bathroom = Big Ideas The bathroom is usually the smallest room in the house. And just because it’s small, doesn’t mean that it has to appear small. There are various ways in which to make your bathroom look bigger than it actually is. Here are a few tips and guidelines. Everything the Same Tone Keep everything in the room the same tone as much as you can. For example, if you have dark walls and light tile your room will be chopped up visually making it appear smaller. But if you do want some contrast, limit it to an item such as a low cabinet or a light fixture. This allows the item to stand out as a feature and everything else will fade into the backdrop. Ceiling and Walls If your ceiling is angled or has oddly shaped low areas, you should paint them all the same color. By making this one unified color, the unusual shapes seem to disappear causing the space to look larger. The amount of transitions and intersecting planes are diminished creating a cleaner and more expansive space in the top of the room. Mirrors Don’t be afraid of mirrors! When it comes to mirrors, you have several options in your bathroom. Here are a few tips on how to make your bathroom appear larger using mirrors: Give your bathroom that grand feeling by installing a mirror that reaches the ceiling. Whether trimmed in wood or tile, a spacious mirror that has lighting above or hanging in front of it will double the impact of the lights and allow the space to grow....

Refresh Your Bathroom The bathroom seems to be the last place that we remodel. Why is that? Just because the room seems to be tucked away from everyone does not mean that it should not get some much needed attention! So how can you turn your bathroom from drab to fab without totally breaking the bank? Read on! Paint Paint can be an inexpensive way to update any room. Whether you tackle the walls, trim or shelving units, you can see big changes almost immediately. Just make sure that you take a few things into consideration before you begin slathering your walls with a new color. Make sure the walls do not have any moisture issues such as peeling paint and tiles falling off the wall. If there is a moisture problem, you will need to call in an expert because there may be something going on like plumbing or ventilation issues. If the walls are showing no damage, then you will want to keep it that way by using a water-based primer to keep the water off the drywall and prevent mildew. Remember that painting your walls is not the only thing that can use a coat or two in your bathroom. Your old vanity can be brought back to life simply by adding a new color to its outer shell. Presto! A more modern look has been achieved! Bring on the Light! When the lighting isn’t right, any room can feel drab and dreary. The best place to start when lightening things up is with any shrubbery outside the window. This is the least...
